History & Legend

The scene of Parvati's marriage to Shiva on the Imaya mountain caused beings worldwide to stand still. As a result, the northern direction sank, while the southern direction rose. In order to restore balance to the world, Lord Shiva directed Agastya to move towards the south. Feeling dismayed that he missed the opportunity to witness his own wedding, Agastya requests, I am granting you the vision of my marriage, says Shiva. Accordingly, Lord Shiva displayed the wedding scene in this temple, offering Agastya the vision of the celestial wedding. Delighted, Agastya placed another lingam to the right of the Sundaralingam in this temple and worshipped it. You can see the wedding idol that Agastya saw behind the main lingam.
