Sri Vaitheeswaran Temple

The temple of Vaitheeswaran, situated in Sirkazhi in the Nagapattinam district, dates back approximately 2000 years. In this shrine, Lord Shiva is known as Siva Peruman Vaitheeswaran, and he is also referred to as Ambal Thaayal Nayagi. Another name for this temple is Pullirukkuvelur. The name is derived from the combination of the words 'pull,' meaning bird, 'irukku,' meaning place, 'vel,' referring to Lord Murugan, and 'oor,' representing the sun. The name signifies the auspiciousness bestowed upon the place, based on the legend of the bird that sought refuge here. At one time, a snake tried to attack a bird in the tank of this temple, and it was slain by a sage. This incident led to the removal of snakes and such creatures from the premises, a phenomenon still observed today. The main deity of this temple is situated before the Sannidhi (sanctum sanctorum), accompanied by two idols made of gold and silver. Unlike in other temples where the nine planets are arranged in specific patterns, here all the nine planets are placed around the main deity, Lord Shiva, at the same time, adhering to the divine directive and alleviating the diseases and afflictions of devotees. The organization of the Vaitheeswaran Temple is as follows: - In the east, there is a shrine for Bhairava, in the south for Vinayaka, in the north for Veerabadhrar, and in the west for Kali, serving as the guardians of the temple. - The temple also features elements from the Tevaram hymns. - The temple is structured with five-tiered Rajagopurams (towered entrances) on seven levels, adhering to the rules of the Thirumandiram of Thirumoolar.

Vaitheeswaran Temple: Located in the Nagapattinam district in Sirkazhi, it is the abode of Vaitheeswaran, the deity associated with healing and grace, in the form of Swayambhu. Generally facing east, Lord Shiva bestows blessings here. The uniqueness of this place lies in its five towers constructed simultaneously. Due to the unavailability of conventional medical treatment, Lord Shiva is believed to manifest as both a healer and an expert in Siddha medicine, providing relief from illnesses that afflict the people.

For incurable diseases:</h3><p> Lord Angaraka, the ruler of Mars, appears in his own shrine. Performing sandhanam (a ritual) in the presence of Murugan in this temple is believed to cure all diseases. Vaitheeswaran Temple remedies: During Mars's ruling hours on Tuesday, devotees come here and perform rituals such as bathing in the sacred waters of the Thirukulam tank, changing into new clothes, offering prayers to all deities - Vinayaka, Angaraka, Shiva, and Ambal, to alleviate all doshas (afflictions). As per ancient tradition, devotees visit the main shrine of Angaraka and perform rituals such as milk abhishekam, panchamrutham abhishekam, thiruneer abhishekam, and apply sandal paste. Those with doshas are allowed to touch the turmeric with their hands, and then the devotees distribute this prasad to alleviate Mars dosha. Vaitheeswaran Temple Nadi Josiyam: Similarly, the traditional nadi josiyam (palm leaf astrology) is also famous at this Vaitheeswaran Temple. People visit here believing in the nadi josiyam revealed by Sage Agathiyar, which provides insights into their past lives. Moreover, the divine power of this temple has the capability to rejuvenate all people in this world. Those who have experienced the effects of nadi josiyam testify to its accuracy.
