In this place the Lord graces in the form of Swayambumurthy.

The goddess Parashakti herself came to this place to perform penance. She created a forest and performed penance. The gods helped by forming the shape of trees and shrubs. To assist in her penance, Kamadhenu sent her daughter. Divine activities were performed to help the goddess in her penance. As a sign of her penance, Perumal (Vishnu) appeared with his consort, seated alongside him. Due to this, Perumal was named Kapardeeswara."+ "Recognizing the greatness and purity of this place, Perumal Himself desired to worship and, using sand, formed a lingam and worshipped it daily. He performed abhishekam with his sacred milk and the water from the Ganges. He bathed in the waters. Delighted by these actions, Perumal permanently stayed in the form of a lingam made of sand. Due to this formation, the deity of this place came to be known as Pattiswaram, and Perumal came to be known as Pattiswaram Perumal.
