History & Legend

In this village, there is a unique tradition of having a single lingam under a banyan tree. Due to this, it is said that certain spiritual events involving the likes of Jnanasambandar did not take place here, and instead, they had to go elsewhere to have darshan of the Lord. Subsequently, they sang hymns praising the Lord while standing at the village border, thus earning the name 'Swamigal Thurai' for the place. This tradition continues to this day in the form of Arisola Aru. Arisola Aru is running in the next page. In the temple of Lord Vinayaka in this village, there is a statue installed under a sacred banyan tree.
