History & Legend

*- Nittadha Nadu Mannan Nalan married the princess of Illavarasi Thamayanthi. The gods desired this girl to be their bride. However, due to envy that Nalan married her, they cursed him, and Lord Saneeswara punished him. Saneeswara, to make Nalan realize his true state of mind, afflicted him with misery for seven years. Nalan lost his wife, children, and even his clothing but remained undisturbed by any of it. *- In one incident, Nalan worshipped Thirunallar Darbaranyeswarar. At that time, Sani left him. Following his plea, positioned facing the south, with divine grace, they renamed him "Saneeswaran'. By worshipping Saneeswaran facing south and under Shiva's grace, one can alleviate the troubles caused by Saturn. Readers of Nalasaritham who worship Saturn can overcome Saturn's afflictions and gain confidence in life. *- The Sacrificial Bull: In this temple, we can see the bull and the sacrificial platform facing away from the deity, without being harmed. Idaiyan, as a king, presented milk to the temple according to the king's order. The accountant falsely wrote that it was sent to his home and then came and insulted Idaiyan. Enraged, the king cursed him. Then, the Lord, to protect Idaiyan and punish the accountant, aimed his trident and killed him. To avoid this trident, the sacrificial platform has been moved away from the deity in this temple. The Lord directed his anger towards the accountant for his wrongdoing.
