About Sri Agastheeswarar (Karuvalarcheri) Temple

The devotees come to this temple and pray to the mother with a sincere heart, perform rituals, and light ghee lamps. After the rituals, they buy turmeric roots from the temple shop and continue worship. By doing so, they believe that all obstacles will be removed, and the blessings of the Karuvalar Naayagi will be bestowed upon them. Pregnant women also benefit from performing this worship. Women who have performed the worship and visited the temple again after a few months witness the fulfillment of their desires, such as childbirth, as well as receiving turmeric as prasadam, which is believed to be powerful.

History & Legend

Agastya Muni and his wife Lopamudra worshipped here, hence the name Agastheeswarar, bestowed upon the divine lord by the grace of God. It is said that during Agastya's wedding ceremony, Lord Shiva appeared. The main deity here is accompanied by Mulavar and Utsavar vigrahas dedicated to Agastya Muni. Special rituals are observed for them on Pournami and Ayilya nakshatra days. Both Ambikai and Easwaran are worshipped together in this temple. Laxmi Narayana Perumal Temple is located nearby. It's an auspicious setting where both Arya and Shiva are worshipped, reflecting the tradition desired by Agastya Rishi. In Agastya Perumal's scriptural region, it is referred to as 'Guruvalan Cherri' which signifies the place where Guru Bhakti (devotion to the teacher) is glorified.
