History & Legend
When the pilgrim visited the Gorakkar Siddhar temple, he found himself drawn to a sage who resided in a hut. Many devotees had already gathered there. He peacefully spent the night there. However, just before dawn, he experienced a strange disturbance. He witnessed a woman standing next to him. Seeing her attire draped over him and her hand resting on his head, he was astonished. Believing it to be a divine sign, he touched his own hands in reverence. Later, he immersed himself in the nearby Chandra Pushkarni, a sacred pond, and paid homage to the deities with folded hands. He was overwhelmed by Gorakkar's devotion to Lord Shiva. "+
"Through Shiva's grace, the sage regained his lost hand. Because his hand was severed by Gorakkar, this place came to be known as Gorakkar, and because he worshipped with his small hands, it was renamed as Kurukkar.Swami Peyarkaranam: Brahma was entrusted with the Vedas, which were stolen by Madhu and Kaitabha demons and hidden in the depths of the ocean. Mahavishnu retrieved them. However, Brahma couldn't resume his usual duty of creation as before. Therefore, according to Vishnu's advice, he came to this spot, bathed in the Chandra Pushkarni, and performed penance, seeking Shiva's guidance. On a certain auspicious day, Shiva bestowed wisdom upon Brahma. As a result, Brahma resumed his noble duty with renewed vigor. Hence, this deity became known as Brahma Jnana Purisvara.
