In the Puranic tradition, Indra's mount, Airavata, once arrogantly performed a dance of triumph before the sage Durvasa, displaying his pride as the recipient of immense respect. Durvasa, known for his temper and curses, took offense and cursed Airavata to lose his pride by turning him into a mere elephant. Airavata, now cursed, lost his grandeur and wandered aimlessly, seeking redemption. In this context, Tarasura, a demon, guided by love and divine grace, relieved him of his arrogance. Thus, the Lord, in his compassion and mercy, stripped away Airavata's arrogance and helped him regain his former self. This incident is recounted in the Puranas as evidence of the assistance provided by the divine to those seeking redemption. Another Puranic tale recounts a time when Yama, the god of death, was tasked with enforcing the wrath of the sages and sought to invoke a curse. However, the curse rebounded, turning him into a being unable to feel the pain of others, condemned to wander endlessly without respite, until finally, Tarasura intervened, recognizing the significance of the sacred waters created by Trisula (the trident). Yama then immersed himself in those waters, thereby absolving himself of the agony of his curse, as recounted in another segment of Puranic lore.
