At one time, there was a competition between Vayu (the wind god) and Adiseshan (the serpent god with a thousand heads). Adiseshan tried to hold Mount Meru, while Vayu attempted to blow it off with his mighty wind. As a result, a small piece broke off from Mount Meru. Because of this incident, this place came to be known as Sathya Giri. Due to his worship of Lord Murugan, the place got the name of Seiyanalur. " +"In this place, a person named Visarasaran, who was born as the son of the sage Echathatthan and Pavithrai, learned everything at a very young age. At the age of seven, he underwent the initiation ceremony according to the family tradition. He lived his life believing in everything as Lord Shiva and continued to live accordingly. He even milked the cows of the sages of the region himself. Because of his association with his mother, he received more milk. " +"Since Visarasaran was always immersed in contemplation of Shiva, he sculpted a Shiva Lingam out of white sand under a banyan tree in Manniyarattangarai, as part of his worship. He performed an abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the Lingam with the milk of a cow, which belonged to the sages, and gave the milk to them. Some who witnessed this act suggested that the milk used in worship could be used to make curd. When his father saw this, he watched from hiding and saw his son perform this act. Not understanding anything, Visarasaran swam away as usual after finishing his worship. He bathed the Lingam in the cow's milk and performed the abhishekam. Upon seeing this, his father embraced him, praising his devotion, and asked him for forgiveness.
