About Peruvudaiyar Temple

The shadow of the temple tower is never found below. In the sanctum, the moonstone is installed at the base of the lingam. Its specialty is that it reduces heat and provides coolness during the summer. It reduces the heat and provides a special coldness during the cold season. The bull is made of stone and is placed on the ground. It is located 200 meters away from the sanctum. During the day, sunlight falls on the bull, and the reflection of that light on the lingam in the sanctum is very special. Our skilled craftsmen have designed the lights inside the sanctum in such a way that if you look at the lingam in the mirror, you can see this light in a very miraculous way.

History & Legend

Rajendra Chola, who built the Big Temple in Thanjavur and Markazhi Thiruvathirai was born. His epithet was Madurantaka. His reign was from 1012 to 1044 AD. Due to his conquests in various countries, he earned the title of 'Gangaikonda Chola'. Like the temple he built in Thanjavur, he also built a grand temple in Gangaikonda Cholapuram, with a grand installation of the lingam and Nandi. Just like in Thanjavur, he named the deity as Pragatheeswarar for Shiva and Periyanayaki for the goddess. For the consecration ceremony, water was brought from the Ganges, and he poured it over his head to perform the consecration. Because of this, this city became known as Gangaikonda Cholapuram. " +"For the consecration ritual, he personally carried water from the Ganges in a pot and poured it over the lingam. Whenever he came to the temple, he poured water from the pot over his head, and then worshipped Lord Shiva. " +" The entire temple was constructed with granite. The lingam inside is one of the largest in Tamil Nadu. To anoint it, he personally offered ghee. The deity Sandikeswarar here is very powerful.
