In the past, this place was a dense forest. The couple, Nithuruvan and Vedikai, prayed for a child due to their childlessness. Due to their longing, they followed the path of Mullai (a form of devotion) and worshipped the Lord. Eventually, Vedikai conceived. However, when Vedikai was pregnant, her husband went out. At that time, a sage named Uttuvapathar came and asked for alms. Vedikai couldn't refuse him due to her state of pregnancy. Unbeknownst to her, the sage cursed her because she didn't offer alms properly. Vedikai lost her fetus due to the curse. She prayed to Ambal (Parvati) and tied a sacred thread to the calf of a cow, and the calf became pregnant. Ambal made sure to protect Vedikai until the day of delivery, and the calf gave birth to a child in a pond. Recognizing the greatness and mercy of the goddess, Vedikai conceived and gave birth to a child in this temple. Vedikai, realizing the divine grace, prayed for the welfare of the world and requested Ambal to protect both the child and the sacred thread. This historical tale highlights the importance of divine grace and protection.
