Agathiyar came to Idaimaruthoor along with his disciples. He remembered Goddess Uma and meditated. Uma appeared before him. Agathiyar, in the presence of Uma, requested the vision of God. Agathiyar, considering Uma's request, meditated on God in the form of a deer. God, moved by Uma's devotion, appeared before both Uma and Agathiyar and granted them a vision.God guided them to the Jyotirlinga. He told Uma that it's a tradition for Brahma and others to be guided by God Himself. He assured Uma that she is guiding herself. Uma, overwhelmed, took the holy ashes and surrendered to God."+ "Explaining the reason for self-offering, Agathiyar revealed that the sages forgot to worship them. Hence, he is offering worship. The sages, realizing their mistake, started worshiping the lord according to Kamika Agama and received great blessings. This incident is mentioned in Tamil history.
