About Arulmiku Sivayoginathar Temple

* The Talam narrates the story of four Yugas. In the Kritha Yuga, the deity worshipped was Puradhaneswarar; in the Thretha Yuga, it was Vilvaranyeswarar; in the Dwapara Yuga, it was Yoganandeeswarar, and in the Kali Yuga, it is Sivayoginathar. Uyyavandha Devanayanar, who composed the Siddhanta Sastra text called Thiruvanthiyar, incarnated in this Sthal. Agathiyar performs worship in this Sthal on Shivaratri day with great importance.* In some Shiva temples, even if there is a separate sanctum for Perumal, Lakshmi Narayanan, along with Lakshmi, is worshipped here. It is said in the Purana that during the Ramayana period, when Jatayu's wings were severed, it fell in this Sthal, and the place where Jatayu fell is now a sacred spot.* Sathurkaala Bairavar: Here, Bairavar is called Sathurkaala Bairavar. They appear as Bairavar for each Yuga and bless here. In the Jnana Kaala, there is Uthirakailaya Lingam near Soma Naamoortheeswarar, in the Sornaakarshana Bairavar, there is Mahalakshmi nearby, in the Unmaththa Bairavar, there is Balasani nearby, and in the Yoga Bairavar, there is a Lingam. Worshiping them on the Ashtami Thithi is special.* There is also a well here: About 300 years ago, when Mr. Sreedhar Ayyavaru was distributing food at his home, a hungry person asked for alms. It is a custom not to deny anyone food even if the distribution is over. Despite this, he fed the hungry person who came with hunger. Because of this, the people of that village left him and his house. When asked for a solution, they were told to take a bath in the well. This person, desiring the grace of the deity here, bathed in the well water and got blessed.

History & Legend

Brahmadeva, also known as Vishnu Sharma, was born as the son of Sivananda, the treasurer of the army. He, along with six yogis born with him, performed penance to seek Lord Shiva. On the night of Shivaratri, Lord Shiva appeared to them and united them as seven Jyothir Lingams. Hence, this Sthal became known as Sivayoginathar. Even today, in Sivalinga Thirumeni, seven unbroken strands can be found.Once, during a time of great sin, a person in his final moments called upon this divine being. At that moment, Shiva's bull,"" Nandi, turned to see who had called. (Nandi's gaze remains fixed towards this direction in this Sthal) The man, thus called, responded, "It is Pradosha day.' By Nandi's glance, his sin was absolved. He was granted relief in that instant. The remedy was given to him there. Emman came to that place. Nandi stopped him. A fight ensued between Emman and Nandi. Nandi won and sent Emman outside the temple to the Bodhi tree. Nandi remained inside the Bodhi tree. However, even today, in this Sthal, we can see Nandi standing outside the Bodhi tree.
