Arulmigu Vyazha Somesar Temple

Lord of this place graces as Swayambu Lingam.

During a previous era, when the deluge occurred, Brahma approached Shiva and asked where he should resume his task after the deluge. "+ "Shiva replied, 'Now, take the sand from many holy places and mix it with nectar. Create an illusionary pot from it. Fill it with nectar. "+ "Within it, sow the seed of creation that will shine as a beacon for all living beings. Place a coconut on top of it as an adornment. Surround the pot with a ring made of books. Place this pot on a great leaf without touching the floodwaters. "+ "Offer worship to it with Vilva leaves. This pot will drift towards the southern direction in the deluge waters. At that time, I will come there,' said Shiva. In this manner, during the deluge era, there was a downpour. The pot drifted away. "+ "The pot of nectar, being the basis for the Kumbha, shook and the flame flickered. At that place, a lingam emerged."+ "This lingam was installed by Chandra (the moon). Hence, it acquired the name 'Someswarar,' given by the Lord.
