History & Legend
When Ravana captured Sita, his minister Jatayu fought with him. At that time, Ravana cut off Jatayu's wings with his sword. Jatayu fell on the ground, mortally wounded. Seeing this, Rama, addressing him as 'Jatayu', felt guilty. Rama, along with Lakshmana, came near and saw Jatayu. Overcome with sorrow, Rama and Lakshmana performed the last rites for Jatayu. This incident made Rama remember his duty to rescue Sita. Immediately, Rama went to help Sita. When Sita was abducted, she remembered her husband Rama with deep devotion. As a result, Mother Earth appeared as a witness and offered to assist Rama in his search for Sita. Together, they accomplished the tasks needed to find Sita. This event is commemorated in the temple built in this place.
