Once upon a time, there was a demon named Iranyakashipu who took the earth to the netherworld and hid himself. To confront him, Bhoomadevi sought refuge with Lord Vishnu. Taking the form of Varaha Avatar, Lord Vishnu descended into the netherworld and rescued the earth. He is the one who bestows grace in this divine event.
